VAST

Veteran Academic Support Team

All incoming students using Federal VA benefits will be automatically included in our mentor program. The purpose of the program is the create a sense of connectedness and engagement with the campus community and in Greenville, NC.  It is important to normalize the transition experience that students may encounter and normalize utilizing resources on campus and in the community.

Our mentors are students who are experienced ECU students and are matched up to incoming students based on their background.  We have mentors for dependents, Reserve/Guard members, veterans, active-duty students, online students, and retired military students.  Our mentors understand your unique situation because they have been there! Our mentors will reach out to you through email and let you know about programs on campus, scholarship opportunities, and any other news that may be helpful.  We encourage our new students to ask our mentors questions if they need help navigating any point of their experience at ECU.  Our mentors are trained on the resources on campus and community, but will bring in appropriate staff members based on your question if needed—let our mentors do the legwork for you instead of wondering what office you need to go to.

In addition, we have faculty and staff members who have volunteered to be a point of contact for their department or office.  These individuals are a great resource if you have a basic question about the department or policy and have a long history of being advocates for the military affiliated population at ECU. We are working hard to grow this list!
